Big Tree

Big Tree

So much spinning into this 2013 Holiday Season! Storms headed in and the ski hills are opening the big runs.  My MonkeyDough.com business is becoming the great opportunity I always knew it could be.  Sparty has had his best season of my long life as a fanatic fan.  I have an opportunity to be with the ones I love from long ago to the present.  This is a blessed season.  My big tree represents my big gratitude for all that life has laid at my feet.  This coming week should be special and memorable.  (I just hope my plane isn’t snowed in tomorrow morning!)

Michigan Education “Think Tank”

Though I don’t always agree with him, Lou Glazer consistently puts out thoughtful content for this Newsletter.  Though it’s about Michigan, I think it’s applicable to every state.  I always gain great insight from his subject and appreciate his understanding of the ties between student performance and economic development.

New technologies are evolving so quickly which creates such a divergence of up and down sides. It is now the case that everyone is able to have numerous communication options for their personal correspondence, their professional presence and platforms to expound on issues and express opinions. These include everything from social media sites up to personal websites.  I started my website yesterday and will continue building it today.  The technology can be frustrating; certainly for some people (me) more than others.  But I am delighted to be able to share thoughts and opinions and expand dialogues through open channels while receiving new insights and thoughts from others.

There is great upside potential for these opportunities to express our thoughts and learn from others but there is also opportunity for dishonesty to flourish if misrepresentation is allowed to go unchecked.  It is crucial to be vigilant in what you put out and what you repeat.  Checking facts is often difficult especially when they are in support of a position you hold.  It is at that time, however, that it’s most important to be certain you a standing on firm ground.

Daily thoughts for the Holiday Season

Image

Early December snow falls blanketing our beautiful Sierras and the Washoe and Carson Valleys. Thanksgiving has just past and this lovely morning inspires the spirit of thankfulness and thoughtfulness that is its true meaning. I am grateful that in America we are able to kick off the holiday season of Christmas with Thanksgiving.  Gratitude is essential to maintaining the spirit of the season and it needs to be in the forefront of our agendas as we try to do what is best for every person and every business in our community. I am certain that working together in this spirit and truly focusing on solving problems is a fundamental of leadership. My commitment is to show leadership and work to improve the quality of life for every member of our community. Looking out the window I am again reminded of the great responsibility we are charged with.  In our community we have great blessings we need be willing to share with one another.

David Pietrusza, historian and presidential election author stated this morning, “Christie’s strategy of embracing Democrats and criticizing conservative causes and figures has worked in his big re-election tonight, but in terms of his national ambitions, he’s playing a dangerous game.”

Dearborn Michigan Schools have displayed great community connection in gaining the support from the voters that resulted in such a lopsided victory in their S.M.A.R.T. Bond initiative.  A model for other communities to follow.
